As a starting point for a successful transition to performance, we would like to provide you with some
food for thought that is based on our previous experiences:
  • Overall business strategy should determine the capability gaps that need to be closed at community, team and individual level. At the same time each of these levels have their unique qualities and development needs. Key challenge for an HR/Learning function is to co-create a blend of learning interventions that collectively enable the realisation of the overall business strategy, and at the same time leverage the full potential within the organisation.

  • There are many elements in an organisation that determine the performance of individuals, teams and communities. It is essential that an improvement program addresses the root-causes of performance gaps. Learning will most likely be one of the enablers, however should be clearly aligned with other business and functional improvement initiatives to guarantee desired business outcomes and reduce inefficiencies.

  • To align with the changing business dynamics, learning interventions need be developed faster and become:
    • Cheaper
    • More relevant (address specific business/team/individual challenges)
    • More flexible (delivered when & where needed)
    • More modular (so customers can select the parts that are relevant for them)
    • Simpler (nomination, registration, delivery, friendliness of supporting tools)

  • 70% of our learning happens in the workplace. Only 10% of our learning happens in formal classroom settings. To maximise the impact of learning investments, staff development interventions must make a strong connection between working and learning activities.

  • New technological developments will provide great opportunities to offer a rich blend of learning interventions. Key challenge will be to create a learning environment that:
    • Inspires end-users instead of confusing them with all available options and information sources
    • Combines all available knowledge sharing and learning solutions into one platform
    • Seamlessly integrates related internal/external information systems (HR, Finance, 3rd party providers)
    • Provides learning managers with an overview of relevant performance indicators, allowing them to make informed decisions.
